Clopidogrel

Obligatory

Must not donate

Discretionary

If prescribed for primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, discuss with DCSO.

Additional Information

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug which is used in the treatment and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke. In this case, the underlying condition would be a contraindication to donation, in the interests of donor safety.

Occasionally Clopidogrel is used for primary prevention in patients who are intolerant of or hypersensitive to aspirin. Donor needs to be assessed by DCSO for the suitability of withholding clopidogrel for the relevant procedure.
