Paget's Disease of Bone

IncludesOsteitis Deformans
DiscretionaryAccept.
Additional InformationPaget's disease of bone is very common in the UK affecting about 1 in 20 adults aged over 50 years. The cause is not known. Many people with the condition have no symptoms and so will be accepted by the blood and tissue services. There is no evidence that it is spread by donation. It is most commonly treated with painkillers and bisphosphonates. The use of these drugs is accepted for other conditions, so there seems no reason why individuals with Paget's disease of bone on treatment should not be accepted, provided that they are otherwise acceptable.
